# New York Sour

A dry red-wine float adds fruit, tannin, and a vivid aromatic layer to an 1880s rye sour without hiding the contrast beneath egg-white foam.

Strength: 23% ABV before dilution

## Ingredients

- 60 ml [Rye whiskey](https://stirred.fyi/ingredients/rye-whiskey.md)
- 15 ml [Fresh lemon juice](https://stirred.fyi/ingredients/fresh-lemon-juice.md)
- 15 ml [Simple syrup](https://stirred.fyi/ingredients/simple-syrup.md) — Use a one-to-one syrup by weight.
- 7.5 ml [Fresh orange juice](https://stirred.fyi/ingredients/fresh-orange-juice.md)
- 15 ml [Red wine](https://stirred.fyi/ingredients/red-wine.md) — Use a dry, youthful, fruit-forward red wine for the float.

## Method

1. Shake everything except the red wine hard with cubed ice until thoroughly chilled.
2. Fine-strain into a chilled cocktail glass without ice.
3. Float the red wine carefully over the back of a spoon, then rotate the glass gently to settle the layer.
