# Prince of Wales (1887)

The 1887 rye branch crushes pineapple into a lightly sweetened whiskey cocktail and crowns it with Champagne.

Strength: 26% ABV before dilution

- 3 ml [Water](https://stirred.fyi/ingredients/water.md)
- 45 ml [Rye whiskey](https://stirred.fyi/ingredients/rye-whiskey.md)
- 2 ml [Luxardo Maraschino](https://stirred.fyi/ingredients/luxardo-maraschino.md)
- 1 piece [Pineapple](https://stirred.fyi/ingredients/pineapple.md) — Use one small square of ripe pineapple.
- 30 ml [Champagne](https://stirred.fyi/ingredients/champagne.md) — Use well-chilled Champagne.

## Garnish

- Lemon twist — Express the peel oils over the drink and retain the twist.

## Method

1. Stir the sugar, bitters, and water in a mixing glass until the sugar dissolves.
2. Add the rye, maraschino, and pineapple, then fill the glass two-thirds with crushed ice.
3. Shake firmly to chill the drink and crush the pineapple.
4. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and add the Champagne without stirring.
